KANNUR DEMENTIA CARE SOCIETY (KDCS) is a registered charitable society dedicated to work in the care of dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, which is most important health care now needed for the society. We are a group of doctors and members from various fields committed for the help of dementia affected individuals for the support and care which gives a breathing time for the bystanders and close relatives caring team who is forgetting their lives and very unfortunate among the society. This area is also ignored by the government and the present health care system.

Dementia refers to a group of diseases (majority being Alzheimer’s diseases) that jeopardises the memory behaviour and cognition of the affected individuals that may disable them to the extend of needing a full time support till death. Some people and their families go through very difficult times physically, emotionally, financially and socially with each day. With each day more and more people are being diagnosed of this malady putting a significant number of families in distress.

We, a group of like minded volunteers teamed up to render our services by caring for such patients and supporting their families. Subsequently, we formed a group which has been registered as a society and has been officially named KANNUR DEMENTIA CARE SOCIETY (KDCS). This group has already seen much expansion in participation within weeks of formation and gathering momentum in work and spirit.

The ultimate objective of the society is to bring the light of hope and strength into the lives of dementia affected patients and their homes by rendering medical, emotional and social support. It is sad the life of caretakers, who many a time if all alone is as pathetic, if not worse than one of the affected patients. KDCS hopes to bring a change in the homes of these hapless families which will fully materialise only with ready public participation.
